There is no place like the Carters Beach in the Buller Region where you can arrive along the Great Coast Road past the Pancake Rocks of Punakaiki, or via the Lower Buller Gorge. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Dinosaur Tree!

Our family-friendly Carters Beach holiday park is the relaxing spot to stay so you can make the most of the region’s outdoor activities. You don’t have to go far from our Westport accommodation to explore the Cape Foulwind Seal Colony. Outside our gate, you can jump onto the Kawatiri Coastal Trail to cycle to the Cape. Or leave your bike at the Cape and walk the Lighthouse Walkway. This goes past a working lighthouse and the NZ Fur Seal Colony.

If cycling or hiking is for you, the Buller Region also has the Old Ghost Road and will take you into the heavens, it is truly breathtaking. But, if you are looking for a quieter day, we have a range of different walks that are available for you.

The local 18-hole golf course is only a good stroll or short drive from our Carters Beach accommodation. Then you can head down to the local Picturesque Café for meal or a drink to make you day. You can sit outside and take in ever-changing ocean views. Donaldos Beach Café is only 400 meters from the Park.

If you enjoy water sports, we have boogie board to use down at our beach. Also bring your surf kite, your Kontiki longline, or Blokart. There is kilometres of beach for everyone.

You can hire surfing equipment from West Coast Surfing at one of New Zealand’s top surfing beaches at Tauranga Bay. We can help you with other epic surfing spots in the area. Westport has a heated indoor swimming pool. We can also point you in the directs for some fishing spots.

Westport township has some nice little boutique shops, array of cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, op shops, along with a recreation centre and movie theatre.

Our facilities can make it easy to relax with an array of amenities during your stay. Hot Tubs for hire, unlimited hot showers, guest laundry, BBQ area, Sky TV Lounge, Chrome casting in units with LED TV’s. We make it easy with free unlimited WIFI throughout the Park for every guest.

We have plenty of in-park activities for your younger ones. With a bouncy cushion, playground, fun bike hires and a games room.

We are a dog friendly Carters Beach holiday park (on sites only) with limits over the Christmas/New Year period. If travelling with your pet, we ask that you read our pet policy and contact our park in advance for approval before arriving.

Best of all, unlike the rest of the West Coast, Carters Beach is mostly sandfly free! With a mild climate it make it easy to have a swim at the beach, or just sit in the sun and read a book.

If you are flying, the airport is based at Carters Beach, then Westport Taxi service can drop you to our Carters Beach Holiday Parks' Reception. Or if you like to stretch your legs then we are a 15 min walk away.

Wonderful site, exceptionally helpful friendly staff. Fantastic, clean facilities, quiet camp and great location- across the road to the beach and right on cycle track. 5 min drive into lovely Westport. Booked in for 1 night ended up staying for 3 and if we could would have stayed longer.

Park FAQs

There is no cooking equipment in the communal kitchen and Std Cabins, can we hire some?

Yes, you can hire a kitchen pack for your entire stay from Reception during office hours. The cost is $2 for up to 4 guests.

If there is anything missing, damaged or swapped out, additional cost will be incurred.
Can we hire a towel during our stay?

Yes, you can. For each clean towel we ask for a $10.00 bond and $3.00 hire fee for every towel hire. On return of the towel, we will refund the $10.00 bond.

Have a talk to our friendly Reception Team during office hours.
If we want to use any of your facilities and not stay the night, can we?

Sorry to say, but no.

All our facilities are only for each nightly paying guest. Our Park is private property and all facilities are privately own and not for general public use.

All people must report to Reception (while open) before any consideration of enter the property would be approved. Check in is from 2pm for paying guests.

We have cameras around the Park for security. If anyone is found inside the Park using the facilities, a nightly site charge will be due before being escorted off the property.
Are we able to just go and see a guest in the park?

Pre-approval is required.

We would ask that you visit Reception first. We need to know some details and explain some conditions before we can invite outside people to enter our private property.

Please respect the decision of staff if visitors are refused. No animals are to enter the park with a visitor.

Visitor must leave the Park when requested. The facilities are for paying guests only.

If the Reception is not open, then no visitors are to enter the Park.
Can we charge our electric bikes or electric vehicle while in the property?

Sorry to say, but no you are not allowed to charge any motorbike, car or larger vehicles inside the property.

If on a Powered Site, the power usage is only for your approved RCD supply for your accommodation stay in a tent, caravan, motorhome, bus. Any licenced vehicle is not to be connected to your accommodation either.

Charging your electric bike is fine. If staying in our rooms, the power pack can be charged inside the rooms. However, no bicycles are allowed inside. With no power cords to be ran outside for any reason.

Please trust us when we say that our infrastructure is not capable of the additional loads on the power supply.

Please don't try to connect your vehicle into our property's power supply. As management will expect the people involved to pay for any damaged to the supply and maybe asked to leave the Park.

Great news the New World supermarket on the main street of Westport has a fast charger for your hire.
Are we able to watch SKY TV inside the park?

Yes you can. The TV Lounge has SKY TV.

Or if you like a bit of atmosphere and there is a big rugby match on, Donaldos Cafe 400 metres walk from the Park, will be open and be watching it. If unsure, please talk to Reception.
Is Carters Beach swimmable, and can we light a fire on the beach?

Carters Beach is swimmable. It is a shallow sandy beach with a reef running behind it. Like any normal beach you need to be vigilant for dangers. There are no lifeguards on duty.

Locals have been swimming here for generations. The beach has a warmer water temperature than the East Coast, as the the water currents flows from the Abel Tasman. Sand castle building is a must.

If you wish to have an iconic West Coast Bonfire on the Beach, it should be fine, but please talk with Reception Staff first. We can ensure it is a safe time of year and help ensure it is lit in the right place on the beach.
Do we have to pay for the Hot Tub hire and for how long?

Yes we do have a hire fee. We do discount the hire fee for active TOP 10 Members.

The hire fee is for up to 2 guests, with additional fees for up to additional 3 guests.

The hire time is for 1 hour from when the key is picked up to its return.

TIP: The sunset hire is most popular, so book early.
Can we arrive before 2pm or plan to arrive after the Reception closes?

Check in is from 2pm. This allows our busy Park staff time to have the Park ready before the afternoon arrivals. This is why we ask you to leave the Park by 10am the morning of departure. Thank you for your understanding.

If you wish to arrive early, please check with Reception to see if its an option.Please note, when we are busy it is less likely to be an option.

If you plan to arrive after Reception closes, please ring and speak with our friendly Reception staff. We can talk it through and make the best plan that suits both parties.

If you end up arriving for a site after hours, please report to Reception and push the bell to speak with the Duty Manager. They can help you settle with an after hours booking. Full payment is excepted before the stay.

Do you allow dogs in the Park?

We unfortunately do not allow any pets inside or around our roofed accommodation.

On sites, if approved in advance, with some stay rules in place, then yes.

Please talk with Reception staff before arrival. You can contact Reception on (+64)3 789 8002. At busy times of the year there are limits to dog stays. In addition, we don't allow certain breeds to stay.

If you have an approved dog staying, and you visit another guest in a room. Please understand that your pet is to stay on the site and not permitted around the rooms.

What is the cancellation policy?

A 75% refund will apply to cancellations 72 hours or more before the date of arrival. No refunds will apply to cancellations within 72 hours of the date of arrival. All cancellations for bookings made on top10.co.nz must be made via the TOP 10 Online reservation system here using your reservation confirmation number.
