As you drive into New Plymouth, the first thing you'll notice is the magnificent peak of Mount Taranaki, our 2518-metre-tall volcano.
This stunning sleeping giant is a haven for trampers and hikers, rock-climbers, skiers and snowboarders. Walks of varying lengths (from 15 minutes to the 5 day ‘round the mountain’ circuit) will see you discover clear mountain pools, lush mystical forests and awe-inspiring views. You can even hike to the summit crater with a professional guide.
A 30 minute drive from our Taranaki holiday park will take you to the base of this dramatically beautiful and sacred mountain. There, you can visit the Egmont Visitor Centre to learn more about the mountain, its history, its myths and legends and its natural assets.
In winter, you can ski the slopes of the Manganui Ski Field. (The terrain is 5% beginner, 30% intermediate and 65% advanced). The upper slopes, in particular, offer a range of thrilling rapid descents.
For an exhilarating experience, take a Scenic flight over and around the mountain.
