Back then, the site was modest, with just six powered sites, a handful of tent pitches, and two toilets and showers. But, with a clear vision and plenty of determination, Frank and Lisa rolled up their sleeves and began transforming the campground into something special.
Since then, the Park has seen remarkable growth. They’ve added modern kitchen and bathroom facilities, built 20 accommodation units and cabins, a reception area, and manager’s accommodation. Today, the Park offers 26 powered and 17 unpowered sites for motorhomes, caravans, and tents. In 2011, it proudly became part of the TOP 10 Holiday Parks Group, rebranding as Martinborough TOP 10 Holiday Park.
As the Park has grown, so has the team. From having only a single cleaner back in 2009, the Martinborough TOP 10 family now includes up to seven team members during the busy summer months. Lisa and Frank recently moved off-site but remain very much involved in the Park’s day-to-day and ongoing development. The on-site team are hands-on and have everything covered around the Park, and are joined by backpackers or students over summer. And then there’s Bandit, the beloved Park cat, who holds the very official role of “Chief Meeter and Greeter.”
All of this has come together to create a place where Memories for Life™ are made. Martinborough TOP 10 is where families return year after year, watching their kids make lifelong friends, gathering to share stories under the stars, soaking up the relaxed atmosphere, and enjoying evenings around the barbecue - with a story always waiting to happen.
Sustainability is something Lisa and Frank are deeply passionate about, both in and outside of the Park. The Park sponsors a hectare at Pūkaha National Wildlife Centre, supports conservation efforts, and promotes waste minimisation through recycling initiatives. Their commitment to sustainable practices continues to grow and evolve.
Outside of TOP 10, Frank and Lisa recently built and moved into a fully off-grid home powered by solar and wind energy. They are also actively involved in the local community. Lisa served on Regional Tourism Boards and volunteered with the Retired Working Dogs Charitable Trust, while Frank chaired the Martinborough Business Association and is a long-standing member of the local Community Patrol. Lisa has also become a registered wedding celebrant, adding another layer of local charm to the Park experience.
From humble beginnings to a thriving, eco-conscious destination in the heart of wine country, Martinborough TOP 10 Holiday Park is the product of hard work, local pride, and a whole lotta heart.
