The West Coast Wildlife Centre not only provides specialist husbandry care to help save the Rowi and Haast tokoeka from extinction, but also offers visitors with an educational experience looking at the fight for kiwi survival.
The experience also includes a chance to see Rowi in a natural, forest, walk-through setting, together with an exclusive ‘behind the scenes tour of the incubation and rearing facility.
The attraction includes hands on interactive activities for young adults, wildlife films produced by Natural History NZ, a glacier attraction and the stories and tales of the people of the West Coast: from the rich history surrounding gold-mining and hunting, through to the incredible evolution of the Franz Josef Glacier itself.
Cafe Wild opens daily at 8.30am and is a great place to grab a coffee, some fresh baking or a packed lunch to take with you for the day. They also offer free wireless internet with any drink purchased and a large fire place to chill out and relax in front of. Wild West Gift Shop is open daily offering a wide variety of essential items and tempting gifts for the discerning traveller.
Kiwi attraction opens daily from 9.00am.
